Channel O Africa Music Video Awards nominees and winners Mafikizolo, Mi casa and Sauti Sol are just some of the biggest names set to headline Blankets and Wine 50th anniversary edition this weekend in a 2-day affair from the 4th till the 5th of January 2014.
Makmende-making Just a Band, ‘Teen Republic’ host and soulful singer Anto NeoSoul, Harry Kimani, the fast rising Sarabi Band, The Villagers, Maurice Kirya and B&W entrepreneur Muthoni the Drummer Queen, who is in the process of releasing her third album, also feature in the mouth watering cast that Blankets and Wine organizers have teased during the festive season, after the cancelled event slate earlier on in December.
Out of the scheduled 11 performers set to take the stage at the Carnivore gardens from Saturday, 4 are ‘non-Kenyan’ acts from across the continent, B&W announced on social media, with virtually all not new to what’s steadily grown to become the largest afro-fusion festival in the region. What’s also exciting to hear is that for the first time ever, the edition will be a two-day festival in Nairobi, aside from the merger that took place mid-2013 with the Rift Valley Music Festival.
As is usual with Blankets & Wine events, a lot of booze will be had by a lot of friends, acquaintances and companions while resting in the shade on Maasai Shuka’s, blankets and kikoys. Visitors will dance, shake and show off; because it will be ‘a musical experience in the spacious gardens of Carnivore right in the heart of Nairobi’.
The event seeks to maintain the urban tourists, both local and international, to the many destinations in East Africa.
Dubbed ‘B and W at 50′, the objective is to celebrate the golden anniversary with ’the best of the best’, as they’ve evidently pieced together a cast that has got audiences excited through the year, or have music out that’s enjoying a string of popularity. What do you make of this line-up?
