One of our best sunny wear labels, Lalesso, just expanded from South Africa to East Africa. So if you like in Kenya, East Africa, look no further, you can purchase your Lalesso clothes at Kenyaways Kite Village, Diani Beach, Mombasa, Kenya, 80401. If you ever wondered how you can be equipped for the sunny days in Kenya in style, here is your answer.
Lalesso is designed by Olivia Kennaway and Alice Heusser, Lalesso’s trademark is the African inspired textiles used in all collections. The brand encapsulates the lifestyle of an endless African summer.
Implementing a strategy of focusing solely on producing perennially summer collections combined with visually compelling imagery has worked to instill Kenyan-based fashion label Lalesso firmly in the minds of those seeking beautiful yet relaxed summer and holiday wear. I have lost count of the number of Lalesso dresses and skirts that have floated in recent years when branding various streets of London through various magazines I’ve read & online portfolios viewed while recently at Tribal Chiq last December.
Recognizable by the distinctive Khanga prints used, Lalesso is increasingly making its mark on summer/resort wear seasons across the globe. I love the clothes but have to say that the photoshoots have captivated my imagination, I just want to pack a bag and go on holiday now and it doesn’t help that I’ve spent the previous vacation in far-away Sultan land. Lalesso always get the mood just right!
A pioneering ethical fashion and lifestyle brand that is a regular on Africa’s premier catwalks, Lalesso is committed to uplifting communities through providing employment and fair wages; and minimizing it’s impact on the environment. Lalesso is currently one of the first zero carbon fashion brands in the world today.
Celebrity fans include, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Kimora Lee Simmons, Elle McPherson, Estelle and Mary Charteris.
All Lalesso garments are produced under strict ethical and fair-trade practices in some of the poorest regions in Kenya. By doing this, Lalesso helps create sustainable and fair employment.
…so in their own words ‘visit the shop and Lalesso yourself for the summer’!
Lalesso was formed by co-designers Olivia Kennaway and Alice Heusser after a holiday to Lamu Island off the north coast of Kenya. Both Olivia and Alice are children of Africa and have been wrapped in its beautiful fabrics since birth. After studying fashion design together in Cape Town the pair were impelled to harness the magical beauty of the East African ‘khanga’, also known as ‘lesso’ to create vibrant and care free summer fashion.
Kenya is a country overflowing with raw talent, incredible design aesthetics and beautiful people yet over 50% of the population live below the poverty line. This was another compelling factor that urged the pair to form the brand and use the business to help create employment with a fair wage that will not only aid survival but allow them to considerably improve their standard of living.
In 2009, Lalesso handed over its in-house work shop to another of their Kenyan inspired ideas, SOKO. After realizing the potential that an ethical factory could provide, the pair instigated the start up of SOKO. SOKO is now an independent, charity based, eco and ethical clothing production unit that supports local talent and provides employment to Kenyans. Lalesso, as well as many other international designers, now uses SOKO for all their garment production, http://www.soko-kenya.com.
Lalesso also uses the creative talent of Kenyan artisans in many aspects of the designs, incorporating various design initiatives and supporting them in doing so. These include beaded bracelets on the swing tags, hand carved coconut buttons, masai beading, brass work among others.
