Nairobi fetes renown city bloggers at the BAKE Kenya Blog Awards 2014

The Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) awards the best bloggers each year in their specific niche of writing. The BAKE Awards happened this past weekend on Saturday 3rd May at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi. The winners in all 17 categories were picked through a process that involved blog submissions by all bloggers, and readers and these nominees were then further trimmed down into 5 blogs per category bringing the entire list of nominated blogs to 85.

This time round, there were 17 blogs up for nomination. The Best County Blog and Best Health Blog were the new additions. The winners were picked through a process that started with submissions by bloggers, readers and virtually any person who has access to the internet in 17 categories.

The submissions were then taken through a phase of trimming and pruning by independent judges who then gave us a list of 5 blogs per category for which readers would vote for. Larry Madowo was the MC at the event. The sponsors of the event were Hiros, Safaricom, Samsung, Nokia, Intel, Multichoice, Xpose, Kenya ICT Authority.

The shock for the evening came up when the winners for the Best Sports blog were announced. For the first time since the inception of the awards there was a tie; and emerged victorious.

Another interesting highlight at the awards gala was indeed favorite winner, the ultimate ‘Disney Tangled’ recently wed couple & also beautiful couple of 2014, Ben & Gathoni Kiruthi who took home the Best Photography blog of the year.

The Kenyan Blog Awards is a reward to bloggers who post on a regular basis, ‘have great and useful content, and are creative and innovative’. The inaugural Awards were held in 2012 where 14 categories were awarded. That increased to 15 categories in 2013 and improved to 17 after the addition of ‘Best Health Blog’ and ‘Best County Blog’ in 2014.

We at replay254 take this opportunity to congratulate the winners, the other nominated blogs and also thank the event organizers as the food was well cooked and we were glad to be part of the team that was covering the event. Next year we promise to be on the winning list and other Kenyan blogs will write about us.
