Fashion brand, Lalesso, over the past weekend compiled an alluring Resort collection for 2015. The collection pays homage to coastal countries of East Africa, that’s evident in the prints used, beautiful colour palettes and accurate fabric choices. Usually trying to look African in Africa is a bit tough & can end up looking tiered, but this collection is culturally rooted (which most fail to do), giving a sense and feel of the Indian Ocean coastline.
Without giving too much away (reserving the element of “this is amaze balls”) expect to see this collection in store in October 2014, then you can tell us if we’re lying. The 2015 Resort collection from ethical brand Lalesso run by co-creators Alice Heusser and Olivia Kennaway, always seeks inspiration from the vibrant East African khanga cloth for their print rich designs – evident in their new collection.
The exclusively summer label literally engulfs an effortless sense of freedom through its classic yet uniquely distinguishable silhouettes and we are excited about their first Resort collection. With intricate patterns and a vibrant palette, Kenyan brand Lalesso embraces the cultural heritage in its Resort 2015 Collection on which the brand was founded.
Each piece is also available in either of four print options and we adore every piece. For this collection they use environmentally friendly 100% bamboo fabric as well as 100% PET made up of recycled plastic bottles.
The luxury African fashion and lifestyle brand is known for using the creative talent of Kenyan artisans in many aspects of its designs, incorporating various design initiatives and supporting them in doing so. These include beaded bracelets on the swing tags, hand carved coconut buttons, Masai beading, brass work among others.
Re-examining Lalesso’s original musings through colour and form, traditional pieces like the khanga or lesso are reworked in a tribute to the effortless and uncomplicated beauty of East Africa. The result is a bright and bold collection that, through simple silhouettes, maintains a classic yet contemporary feel.
The Lalesso Resort 2015 Collection as earlier mentioned draws its inspiration from East African fabrics, with all the prints designed in house and exclusive to Lalesso. The swim pieces are styled up with glistening gold trims and the dresses, kaftans and cover-ups are simple but flattering.
