Happy 2015 beautiful people! I’m glad to know that you’re right here where you belong in 2015, getting your regular dose of replay254! It’s a great year to be alive, awash in hope and rejuvenated in style. This year promises a lot of sophistication in fashion and we can’t help but wait to experience all the fashion & style trends the New Year brings with it.
All roads recently led to Eko Hotel & Suites within Victoria Island as Africa converged on one stage to present the highly anticipated annual fashion and music show, Music Meets Runway (MMR Africa) ’14 “The African Edition”.
As part bringing creativity into the fashion and music industry, the event in its fourth edition appreciated & and showcased the best of music and fashion featuring a mix of local and international designers from across the continent on one stage in Lagos.
In line with 2014’s theme ‘The African Edition’, selected last year’s artistes from all around Africa to lighten up the atmosphere with their various styles of music and showcase of unique fashion collections by prominent designers from selected African countries.
After a thorough search, the Music Meets Runway Foundation also unveiled the face of MMR. Out of the hundreds of models that applied, model, Joanne Nneka ‘Nikki’ Anyansi stood out of the crowd. As the winner of the Face of MMR 2014, Nikki, a French graduate from Imo State University, is the primary model for all MMR campaign images, as seen in the 1st official campaign image and her standing as MMR brand ambassador is accompanied by many other benefits. According to Nikki, “I am grateful to God for getting me to this point in my career as a model.”
Speaking at the event, Jennifer Olize, founder of MMR Africa said, “The vision of MMR Africa is to show the world these amazing talents, cultural diversity and innovative potential of the creative artisans who have attained international standards right here in Africa.”
Celebrities who graced the event included Victoria Kimani, Toke Makinwa, Noble Igwe, OC Ukeje, Lala Akindoju, Dakore Akande, April by Kunbi designer Kunbi Oyelesi, Emma Nyra, Toyin Lawani, Caroline Dajuma to mention but a few.
Selected fashion designers who showcased their show-stopping collections included KikoRomeo (Kenya), Neville Masondo (South Africa), KolaKuddus Couture (Nigeria), Osei Duro (Ghana), Sunny Rose (Nigeria), Mademoiselle Aglaia (Nigeria).
The star studded event also thrilled the crowd with electrifying performances that featured Kenya’s renowned Afro-Pop band – Sauti Sol, Reggae/Dance Hall artist Patoranking, Pop sensation WizKid, Dancehall/Hip Hop artist Cynthia Morgan, Seyi Shay, Ice Prince, DJ Cuppy, Efya, Mpumi, who uniquely did sterling performances on stage alongside the selected designers from the countries they represent.
Sauti Sol thereby performed alongside Kenya’s renowned fashion label, Kiko Romeo with whom they merged a blending yet vibrant Kenyan fashion taste on the pan-African stage. MMR Africa was Sauti Sol’s first ever performance in Nigeria that saw them widen their fan base as they met new faces and gave a memorable scintillating performance.
According to organizers of the event (Le Reve Events), “Fashion and Music has created a style storm around the globe. The innovation, ‘Music Meets Runway’ is intended to provide a platform for talented designers, especially those who normally are excluded from the highly competitive world of fashion to showcase their unique art works while talented music artists perform on stage.
Music Meets Runway is an annual fashion and music show event, which features fashion by the new era of fashion being presented alongside live performances by popular music acts, including international artists.
- The event opened with an artistic music performance by dance troupe for Music Meets Runway ’14, which brought cultures together through music and displayed different African dances and costumes from the continent that eventually created awareness about what the event was all about.
- All fashion designers showcased lovely pieces from their collections which portrayed African cultures through their designs that amazed everyone at the event.
- Highlight of the show were performances by award-winning Kenyan and Nigerian Artistes respectively Sauti Sol, WizKid, Ice Prince, Patoranking and DJ Cuppy wowed the guests who danced to every beat of all their songs.
