The Knowles sisters definitely know how to show love for African designers – which is something to be proud of. First it was Beyoncé rocking a dress from Nigerian label, RockItFrockIt and now little sister follows suit.
Yes, no doubt about this, the angels in charge of making sure that Solange stays fashion slaying went all out recently. Solange Knowles of course brought her style game for her DJ set at the 2015 BET Upfronts in New York.
For the BET event, Pop sensation Solange Knowles looked every inch the style star wearing Nigerian label, Maki Oh. The fashionista showed us that DJ’ing doesn’t mean you can’t be fabulous and rock the turntables.
The eccentric style queen chose a mixed batik print dress featuring a front, leg-baring split with silver accents from Maki Oh’s Fall 2015 Collection, ‘Mami Wata’. Solange then styled her look with gold metallic, white and black mules along with Monica Viander jewelry, her signature afro look paired with simple make up to complete her fashionista attitude.
Inspired by water surface when the sun is out, the dress is made out of the African textile, Adire featuring different panels of silk and linen – hand-dyed with indigo. Over the course of her bright fashion career, Maki Oh as a designer continues to champion African textiles.
Solange has worn Maki Oh on several occasions and previously collaborated with the label on its AW ‘13/’14 short film by curating the film’s music, ultimately, giving the label rights to use her song ‘Look Good With Trouble’ from her best-selling album, ‘True’.
Creative Director/Designer Maki Osakwe debuted her line, Maki Oh, in 2010. Based in Lagos, Nigeria, the brand has earned international acclaim and won a celebrity fan base that includes First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) Mrs. Michelle Obama, Solange Knowles, Leelee Sobieski, Azealia Banks and Arden Wohl.
The BET event held by the broadcast channel celebrated the line-up of new series’ set to hit the channel hosting guests like Brandy, Whoopi Goldberg, Kirk Franklin, Queen Latifah, Tyrese Gibson, Lil Mama and more. See the fab looks from the red carpet here.
