PICHULIK, one of Africa’s best-loved jewellery brands, recently launched their Resort spring/summer 2017 capsule collection entitled #PichulikByNadya featuring a limited edition range of hats and bags, as well as four new espadrille styles, made in collaboration with Espadril SA.
Steered by Creative Director, Katherine-Mary Pichulik and assisted by head fashion designer, Nadya Von Stein, PICHULIK’s ss17 collection is characterized by a restricted palette of natural colours in soothing hues eclectically fused with ancient & organic materials like coral, jade, shell, horn, glass paired with hemp assembled in gentle forms to impart powerful meanings.
Inspired by Central Indian ceremonial jewels, Middle Eastern ornamentation, Byzantine embellishment and the desert tones of Marrakesh, each piece speaks to the idea of journey, discovery and exchange.
The organic materials are ancient currencies to be worn boldly as symbols of value and worth. Pieces such as the ‘Mithra’ pendant and ‘Anahita’ choker and cuff reference goddesses and evoke the feminine qualities that have become a hallmark of PICHULIK’s designs: grace, wisdom, compassion as well as power.
PICHULIK’s ropework features too, this time as simple knots in the chokers and bracelets. The earrings have the same shape as the previous two seasons and the gold hoop and adornments are interchangeable, allowing them to be personalized.
“This collection is incredibly feminine and the colours are softer because of the desert influences,” says Katherine-Mary. “I guess it’s because I am also in love at the moment and my general take on things is softer and gentler. We really wanted to pare the pieces down to the brand’s essence, which has always been considered materials, sensitive and attentive craftsmanship, and ancient wisdom.”
Shoe brand, Espadril complete Pichulik’s summer look with four tailor-made espadrilles in yellow, black, white and gold. Contrasting with the monotone clothing palette, they’re a complimentary addition to the clothing range and can be worn as a single staple item or paired with their accessories.
