Deaf twin sisters take on the fashion world

True to the adage, disability is not inability and according to Eritrean-Ethiopian twins & fashion bloggers, Hermon and Heroda Berhane, “happiness is sisterhood”, thus it’s not difficult to understand why they think so.

Born & raised in Asmara (Eritrea), Hermon and Heroda both contracted an unknown disease which resulted in them being deaf at the young age of 7 due to unknown causes. That, however, didn’t stop them from living their true potential.

The twins who since relocated to the UK, recently launched a fashion and lifestyle blog called ‘Being Her’ , to chronicle their twinning journey with one lifestyle and two different personalities – sharing their style inspiration, beauty, lifestyle and travel stories to express themselves.

Their fun approach to fashion and life, makes their photo stories the ultimate source of inspiration for fashion lovers everywhere. Playing with great textures and impeccable styling, from sunny beaches to the hustle & bustle of the city, the twins put together inspired + beautiful looks for every season and every occasion.

Their style is uber chic, delightfully unifying and expressive; one day, they’re channeling Missy Elliot with colourful puffer jackets, sporting everything from swimwear to ultra-chic dresses and the next they’re back to their roots, adorned in Eritrean attire.

“Deaf people can do it like everyone can. We don’t strive to look or be perfect. It’s all about self-expression and individuality. This is why we started our first blog now because people are hungry for real inspiration and we want you to see what we’re wearing clothes that we can afford, and most importantly our personality, that you can relate to us,”  they highlighted.

While complimenting each other perfectly as stylish twins, Hermon is a professional actress while Heroda hopes to pursue a career in commercial modeling, having landed her first commercial for Smirnoff  ‘We’re Open’  campaign last year.

Now 34 years old, both women have long accepted their condition, and are living their dream avidly pursuing their passion for fashion, travelling and culture.

Their mission is simple. “We want to tell people around the world that you should embrace disability, not hide from it,” the twins said in an interview with CNN.
